Tars Take Down Ave Maria

Rollins won all 13 events and took the top three spots in 11 of them

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Jan. 13, 2023) – The Rollins women's swimming team got its fourth win of the season in convincing fashion on Friday, defeating visiting NAIA No. 28 Ave Maria by a score of 222-6. The Tars improve to 4-4 in dual meets this year, while the Gyrenes fall to 0-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Rollins won every event on Friday and swept the podium in 11 events.
  • The Tars opened the day with a sweep of the 200-yard medley relay, led by the team of Alonna Clark, Lauren Diehl, Danielle Boland, and Abigayle Wood who clocked a time of 1:57.73.
  • The first individual race, the 200-yard freestyle, saw Maia Russell (2:03.20), Boland (2:04.10), and Mackenzie Adams (2:04.63) take the top three spots.
  • Clark touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.41, followed by Elliot Fox (1:04.03) and Camila Cramer (1:04.65).
  • Diehl (1:12.23), Amelia Kondal (1:12.99), and Russell (1:13.88) swept the 100-yard breaststroke.
  • Rollins also swept the 200-yard butterfly, with Sarah Brown (2:11.64), Elizabeth Sander (2:13.13), and Janie Inscore (2:22.90) doing the honors.
  • The 50-yard freestyle saw Emily Hennessy (26.11) take first place, followed by Wood (26.37) and Kassy McCoy (26.94).
  • Clark (54.97), Wood (55.37), and Lydia Bohannon (57.93) took the top three places in the 100-yard freestyle.
  • The Tars swept the 500-yard freestyle thanks to Brooke Postell (5:27.60), Sander (5:30.69), and Abby Frey (5:39.95).
  • Brown (1:01.70), Boland (1:02.60), and Bohannon (1:03.91) were the first three finishers in the 100-yard butterfly.
  • The final individual event saw Jill Hughes (2:17.38), Erika Wesch (2:23.98), and McCoy (2:24.03) take the top three positions in the 200-yard individual medley.
  • Rollins took first, second, and third in the 200-yard freestyle relay to cap the meet, with Brown, Bohannon, Diehl, and Hennessy claiming victory with a time of 1:44.78.
