MONTGOMERY, Ala. (September 26, 2022) – The Rollins women's tennis team had their first taste of action for the 2022-23 season at the ITA South Regional this past weekend. A total of five Tars competed in singles and doubles.

Rollins sent two doubles teams into action.
Georgina Groth and newcomer
Milla Falster were tabbed as the #8 overall seed, and saw success in their first two matches. They started the event by defeating Sofia Pepe and Maria Caride of Delta State, 8-4. Then in the next round, they took down Ely Alas and Fernanda Cota of Mississippi College by a score of 8-5. In the quarterfinals, they suffered a loss at the hands of Natalie Espinal and Fatima Bizhukova from SSC rival Nova Southeastern, 8-3. The Tars' other duo was
Polina Vlasova and
Erin Yaroshuk, who fell in their first round matchup against Daniela Farfan and Nathalia Gasparin of Barry.
In singles play, Groth had the longest run, making it to the round of sixteen in a field of more than 110 entrants. She had a tough matchup with Mirjana Ragatovac of Lee University, but came out on top 7-5, 6-4. She cruised through her next game, defeating Montevallo's Cyba Ozzor 6-1, 6-1. Her run came to an end against Julie Razafindranaly of Barry, who would eventually make it to the final four.
Vlasova had two wins to her name, with victories over Alas (6-0, 6-1) and Lavinia Lancellotti (6-3, 4-0 ret.) of Saint Leo. She was then dropped by Clara Versier of Barry.
Polina Ligay and Yaroshuk also competed in singles, and fell in their opening round matchup.
Next up for the Tars will be the annual Varner Memorial Invitational, held right here on campus. That event begins on October 7
th.
