WINTER PARK, Fla. (Sept. 16, 2022) – The Rollins volleyball team came up short on Friday night against visiting 18th-ranked Barry, falling in three sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-19). The Tars now stand at 3-8 on the season and 1-2 in SSC play, while the Bucs move to 10-0 overall, 3-0 in conference matches.
Lana Gerard put down a team-leading 10 kills and collected a team-high 13 digs while
Emma Rome chipped in with eight kills and
Emma Begley contributed five kills, five blocks (three solo), and four digs.
Natalie Horsley dished out a match-high 33 assists and
Adriana Lopez picked up nine digs.
Diana Akopova racked up a match-high 13 kills for the Bucs while Djuly Schmorantz tallied eight kills and a match-best 15 digs. Marija Borcic posted a team-high 32 assists to go along with nine digs and four kills, while Luana Bulara added 13 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- The first set was a back-and-forth affair that featured 19 ties and nine lead changes.
- Only three times did one team hold a two-point lead until the final stages, with the Tars leading by two twice, including a 17-15 advantage.
- Barry went on a 4-0 run to take a 19-17 lead, but the Tars answered right back with three straight points to retake the lead, 20-19.
- Rollins held a 22-21 lead, but the Bucs went on to capture the final four points of the set to win it, 25-22.
Set Two
- Barry used an early 6-0 run to pull out to an 11-4 lead in set two.
- A 4-1 run for the Tars brought the deficit down to 12-8, but Rollins wasn't able to string together more than two points for the rest of the set, with Barry pulling away for a 25-15 win.
Set Three
- The Bucs opened set three on a 7-1 run to take command early.
- Rollins responded, getting to within three points quickly (8-5) and eventually closing the gap to just two (17-15).
- Barry then scored five straight to go up 22-15 and the visitors would hold on for a 25-19 win to complete the 3-0 sweep.
