WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 8, 2022) – Rollins won a pitchers' duel, 1-0, under the lights at Rollins Softball Stadium, to capture game one of their three game, Sunshine State Conference, series against the Barry Buccaneers. The Tars improve to 21-6 on the year, and 12-4 against conference foes. The Bucs drop to 28-14, and fall to 10-6 in SSC action.
Â
Both defenses dominated the contest, as Rollins earned the win on the back of just a lone hit, a
Raiven Bryant single.Â
Ashley Worrell earned the game's only RBI. Worrell also starred for the Tars in the circle, tossing a complete game, giving up just a pair of hits, and striking out nine Buccaneers.
Â
Barry got hits from Mac Stone-Folmar and Cassandra Lee, but could not muster any further offense. Maci Barnhart pitched a gem of her own, giving up just one hit, and one run, while striking out four, over six innings.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning:
- Lee made her way to first after being hit by a pitch, and the Bucs looked like they were going to start the game with a rally, with a ball hit sharply off the bat of Annabelle Phillips. But Taylor Waters made a spectacular diving catch to help Rollins keep the first frame scoreless.
Fourth Inning
- The Bucs looked dangerous again in the top half of the inning. Getting the first two baserunners on with a hit by pitch and a single.
- Worrell settled down though, and retired the next three batters in order, including one of her nine punchouts.
- Raiven Bryant then started the bottom of the inning with a slapped single that fell in front of the centerfielder.
- She smartly motored to third on a Chelsea Peace groundout, then crossed home plate when Worrell lifted a high fly ball deep into left field.
Seventh Inning
- Barry could not mount any threat in their final at bat, as Worrell registered two more strikeouts to seal the win.
UP NEXT:
These two teams will faceoff in doubleheader action, tomorrow, Saturday, April 9, as they conclude their three game set at Rollins Softball Stadium. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
