No. 18 Tars Fall at No. 3 Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. (April 8, 2022) – The 18th-ranked Rollins men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at third-ranked Saint Leo on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Tars fall to 7-6 overall, 2-5 in SSC play, while the Lions improve to 16-3, 4-2 in conference matches.

COACH'S QUOTES:
"It's safe to say we didn't play our best today, but I was really happy for Denis to get over the hump and find a win over Faletto," Head Coach Jay Friedman said. "And of course I was really proud of Efe and Mikkel for taking out the number five doubles team in the country, it was a good effort and quite a back-and-forth set."

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
  • Saint Leo won the doubles point with victories on courts two and three, but the 25th-ranked tandem of Efe Comu and Mikkel Baumann fought to earn a 7-5 win on court one over fifth-ranked Bruno Faletto and Willem Van Den Akker.
Singles
  • The Lions took the matches on courts five, three, and two, respectively, to clinch the match.
  • Saint Leo also got wins on courts six and four, but Golubev, the No. 6 singles player in the country, continued to battle on court one. He eventually took down fifth-ranked Faletto, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 10-8, in the final match of the day.
