No. 12 Lynn Nips No. 19 Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 6, 2022) – The 19th-ranked Rollins men's tennis team put up a valiant effort against 12th-ranked Lynn on Wednesday afternoon, with the match coming down to the final singles match. The Fighting Knights came away with the 4-3 win, improving to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in conference, while the Tars dropped to 7-5, 2-4 in SSC matches.


COACH'S QUOTES:
"After some clean doubles by Lynn our guys really stepped up in the singles matches," Head Coach Jay Friedman said. "We really went the extra mile mentally to fight with quality game plans all the way to within points of the upset. We are getting closer, and I'm very proud of the effort on all six courts and the guys off the court creating a positive atmosphere!"

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
  • Lynn opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches to take the opening point.
Singles
  • Denis Golubev, ranked sixth nationally, dominated Diego Gonzalez on court one, 6-1, 6-0, to tie the match at a point apiece.
  • After the Fighting Knights grabbed the next two points on courts six and four, Andrea Brignacca rallied for a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Ignacio Martinez on court three to keep the Tars in it.
  • Mikkel Baumann followed suit, bouncing back from a 6-0 loss in the first set to take down Gabrielle Felline, 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 on court five to tie the match at 3-3.
  • Efe Comu was the last Tar to finish, and he put up a great fight against 23rd-ranked Lucca Baptista on court two. Baptista ended up coming out on top, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, to give the match to the Fighting Knights.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will travel to Saint Leo on Friday, April 8 to take on the third-ranked Lions at 3 p.m.
