Florida Tech Evens Series with No. 11 Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 23, 2022) – The 11th-ranked Rollins baseball team dropped a 6-2 contest to visiting Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon, leveling the series at a game apiece. The loss lowered the Tars' record to 30-12, 14-9 in conference play, while the Panthers moved to 29-17, 12-14 in SSC games.

Chase Achuff finished 3-for-4 for the Tars, while Joey Rubin was 2-for-5. Parker Smith went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Adams Torres was 1-for-4 with a run scored.
 
Justin Alintoff (5-4) took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings, striking out two and walking none. Tate Stone-Frisina and Ryan Murphy combined for 6.1 innings of relief, surrendering a total of one run on two hits, walking three with seven strikeouts.
 
Dylan Dahonos went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs for the Panthers, while Hayden Kimball was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Andres Rodriguez (2-0) got the win, giving up two runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings, walking four and striking out three.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
  • The Tars got on the board first with a two-out rally in the first.
  • Torres got the rally started with a hit-by-pitch, and Jeslyn Whitehead and Nick Santucci followed up with back-to-back walks to load the bases.
  • Smith then delivered a base hit to left, scoring Torres and Whitehead to make it 2-0 Tars.
Third Inning
  • Florida Tech racked up seven hits in the third inning, including four straight to open the frame, scoring five times to take a 5-2 lead. 
Sixth Inning
  • The Panthers tacked on another run in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-2.
Ninth Inning
  • Rollins was able to put two men on in the ninth, but couldn't scratch across any runs, falling by the final of 6-2.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars and Panthers will wrap up this three-game series tomorrow with the final game set for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
