Rollins Clipped by Eagles in SSC Quarterfinals

The Tars season came to an end in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Quarterfinals as the No. 27 Tars fell to No. 4 Embry-Riddle, 4-1

BRADENTON, Fla. (April 22, 2022) – The Tars season came to an end in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Quarterfinals as the No. 27 Tars fell to No. 4 Embry-Riddle, 4-1.  The Tars, who entered the conference championship bracket as the sixth-seed, finish the year at 7-9, while the third-seeded Eagles advance to the semifinals at 15-4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
  • The Tars picked up a win early, with Andrea Brignacca and Denis Golubev dominating the second court doubles match, on the way to a 6-1 victory.
  • The Eagles would respond by earning a pair of 6-4 wins on the first and third courts to earn the doubles point.
Singles
  • Fernando Alonso defeated Phillip McMurray 6-1, 6-0 to pick up the Eagles' second point.
  • Alvaro Diaz downed Charlie Putrino 6-3, 6-2 as Embry-Riddle moved to with one win of the overall victory.
  • Dennis Golubev tallied the Tars lone victory.  The nation's No. 4 player controlled No. 6 Juan Ortiz, 6-2, 6-3 in the first position, to make the score 3-1.
  • Andrea Brignacca battled in singles play, but could not hold off Michaele Iftimie, 6-2, 7-5, as the Eagles won the clinching match.
  • Efe Comu had won a first set tie break in the unfinished second court match. Mikkel Baumann was in a tight contest against Lukas Schneider, with each player taking one set apiece, on the fifth court.
