WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 22, 2022) – Jaylyn Whitehead tossed Rollins' first nine-inning complete game shutout since 2018 to lead the 11th-ranked Tars to a 4-0 victory over Florida Tech on Friday night. The victory improved the Tars' record to 30-11, 14-8 in conference play, while the Panthers fell to 28-17, 11-14 in SSC games.
Adams Torres finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, while
Chase Achuff was 1-for-4 with a solo home run.
Jaylyn Whitehead (8-1) went the distance, giving up just two hits and a walk in the nine-inning effort, racking up 12 strikeouts along the way. The last nine-inning shutout by a Tar was accomplished by Garrett Leonard against Lynn on March 3, 2018.
Alec Eldridge went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and Dylan Dahonos was 1-for-4 for the Panthers. Joey Hecht (3-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings of work, walking one.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Third Inning
- Achuff opened the scoring with a one-out solo home run in the third.
- Four pitches later, Torres made it back-to-back homers to increase the lead to 2-0.
Seventh Inning
- Jared Herron got the seventh inning started with a base hit up the middle.
- After a pitching change, Joey Rubin was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with no outs.
- Two batters later, Torres singled through the left side to score Herron, making it a 3-0 game.
Ninth Inning
- Whitehead came out for the ninth and finished what he started, setting the Panthers down in order to complete the shutout.
