Rollins Completes Series Sweep of Eckerd

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 16, 2022) – The Rollins softball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead early and easily cruised to a 7-2 victory over visiting Eckerd on Saturday, sweeping the three-game series. The victory moves the Tars to 26-6 on the season, 17-4 in SSC play, while the Tritons fall to 16-19, 5-16 in conference action.

Ashley Troutman went 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, two runs scored, and two RBIs, while Raiven Bryant was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Tyler Jo Colby finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run and Ashley Worrell was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases.
 
Worrell (13-3) got the win, allowing just two runs on five hits in 6.1 innings, walking two and striking out nine. Emily MacMullen came on to get the final two outs, allowing a lone hit.
 
Brooklyn Cardona went 2-for-3 with a run scored for Eckerd, while Brenna Lokeinsky was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Hannah Perkins (9-11) took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings, walking one and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
  • Troutman led off with a bunt single and Bryant then reached on an infield single to put two on with nobody out.
  • Chelsea Peace laced the next pitch to right-center for a double, scoring Troutman with the first run of the game.
  • Worrell then singled home Bryant, making it 2-0.
Second Inning
  • Troutman doubled the lead in the second with a long two-run home run to left, making it 4-0.
Fourth Inning
  • The Tars added a pair in the fourth on an RBI double from Lexi Moore and an RBI single from Bryant, pushing the lead to 6-0.
Fifth Inning
  • Colby made it 7-0 with a solo home run to straightaway center field in the fifth.
Seventh Inning
  • The Tritons plated a pair in the seventh, but it was too little, too late as Rollins took the 7-2 victory.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will travel to Melbourne next weekend for a three-game SSC series at Florida Tech. Game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, April 22.
