GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 9, 2022) – The Tars kicked off the 2022 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a splash, with
Harold Lockhart taking home the gold in the 1000 Yard Freestyle event. The win is the Tars first ever NCAA Swimming Championship victory.

Lockhart, who took silver in the swim at the Sunshine State Conference Championships last month touched the wall with a new school record time of 9:00.93. Lockhart was in a crowded field of swimmers for a majority of the race, but he started to separate himself with just 200 yards to go. Over the final four lengths the sophomore pulled away, growing a half second lead into a three second advantage before touching the wall first.

Chance Ricca also competed in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. The freshman improved on his qualifying time by three seconds, stopping the clock in 9:14.11 to tally a 12
th place finish.

Lockhart teamed up with
Luke Bunnell,
Cruse Sweeney, and
Christian Huber to finish 17
th in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with anew school record of 1:20.95.
