WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2022) – The 16th-ranked Rollins baseball team won its 15th straight game on Tuesday, defeating visiting Notre Dame College, 3-0. The Tars limited the Falcons to just one hit and two baserunners, one via a hit-by-pitch. The win puts Rollins at 16-2 on the year, while Notre Dame falls to 3-8.
Cameron Meehan went 2-for-2 with two walks, a double, a stolen base, a run scored, and two RBIs to lead the Tars' offense.
Aidan Healy was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, and
Jeslyn Whitehead finished 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
Ross Korosec drew the start on a staff day for the Tars, tossing a perfect first inning in just six pitches.
Tate Stone-Frisina pitched the next two scoreless innings, allowing one baserunner on a hit-by-pitch and striking out two.
Spencer Mangum (1-0) got the win, throwing two perfect innings with two strikeouts.
Nick Berger threw two scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing the lone Falcon hit.
Alfredo Caraballo pitched a perfect eighth with one strikeout, and
Austin Long recorded his third save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Nick Farrell went 1-for-4, recording Notre Dame's only hit on the day. Austin Mora (1-3) took the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in four innings, walking three and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Fourth Inning
- Jeslyn Whitehead doubled to lead off the fourth, which was the Tars' second hit of the game.
- Three batters later, Meehan doubled him home with two outs to put Rollins in front, 1-0.
- Andres Antonini hit the very next pitch into center field for a base hit to score Meehan, doubling the lead to 2-0.
Fifth Inning
- Notre Dame nearly registered its first hit of the game in the fifth.
- Nick Petrolla led off the inning and lined a 1-2 pitch into right-center field, but Healy, making his first start of the season in right field, made a fantastic full extension diving catch for the out.
Seventh Inning
- Four Tar pitchers combined to not allow a hit through the first six innings of the game, but Farrell broke up the no-hit bid, winning an eight-pitch battle with Berger to lead off the seventh with a base hit.
Eighth Inning
- With two outs in the eighth, Healy belted a triple to left-center.
- Meehan then laid down a perfect bunt to third base for a base hit that scored Healy with an insurance run.
Ninth Inning
- Long came on to pitch the ninth and only needed eight pitches to set down the Falcons in order, earning his third save and securing the 3-0 win.
UP NEXT:
The Tars are back home tomorrow to host Concordia – St. Paul at Alfond Stadium. First pitch, which was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., has been moved up to 12 p.m. in an effort to stay ahead of anticipated inclement weather later in the afternoon.
