Tars Control Saints on the Road

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (March 5, 2022) – The Tars traveled north east take on the upstart Flagler Saints on the road.  Rollins came away with the 18-6 victory.  The Tars remain perfect on the year, improving to 4-0.  The Saint drop to 3-4 in their inaugural campaign.
 
Caroline Gastonguay paced the Rollins offensive effort with a game high eight points, coming on five goals and three assists. The senior also caused three turnovers.  Liz Fahey found the back of the net five times also, while causing one turnover and picking up one groundball.  Claire Reist registered a career high four scores.  Abigail Cawley dished out three assists.  Rachel Schlesinger made eight saves between the pipes for the Tars, playing the full 60 minutes.
 
Flagler was led by a pair of goals from Madison Daziel, while four other players each scored once.  A pair of Saints tallied assists.  Alex Eubanks and Lauren Ribadeneira combined to make seven saves in net for Flagler.
 
The Tars dominated statistically, taking 32 shots against the Saint 18, while putting 25 on goal.  The Tars successfully cleared on 18-21 chances, and forced 20 Flagler turnovers, while only losing the ball 13 times themselves.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

• Caroline Gastonguay got the Tars started with the first two goals of the contest.  Her first came off an assist by Claire Reist.
• Abigail Cawley found Taylor Kienle for Rollins third, before Liz Fahey netted her first to give Rollins a 4-0 lead in the first 6 minutes.
• Flagler responded with a pair of scores to halve the Tars' advantage.
• Fahey made in 5-2 on a free position shot.  But, the Saints responded with their third to keep the deficit at two.
• Whitney MacMillan won a crucial draw control late in the quarter, and fed Abigail Cawley, who passed to Fahey on the crease for a late score, as Fahey completed her first quarter hat trick.

Second Quarter

• The Saints again cut the Rollins lead to just a pair early in the period.
• Caroline Gastonguay found the back of the net just minutes later, registering her third, and making the scoreboard show 7-4.
• Both defenses clamped down as neither team could find the back of the net for over six minutes.  The streak was broken by Fahey who dodged by her defender from up top and fired a shot into the bottom corner of the goal.
• Isabella Cecchi tallied her first score of the year to give Rollins their biggest lead of the half, at five goals.

Third Quarter

• The Saints registered the first goal of the second half, but Caroline Gastonguay found Fahey just minutes later to make the score 10-5
• Abigail DeGroat registered her first collegiate goal at the 10:37 mark, off an assist from Abigail Cawley.
• Caroline Gastonguay tallied a pair of goals as Rollins closed the third on a four goal run.

Fourth Quarter

• The Tars continued their streak to open the final period.  Claire Reist net a natural hat trick as Rollins pushed their advantage to 11, at 16-5.
• The Kienle sisters combined, Paige scoring off an assist from Taylor, to extend the Rollins lead to 17-5.
• Flagler tallied at the 8:22 mark, ending Rollins eight goal streak. But, Caroline Gastonguay responded with her fifth goal, making the score 18-6 as the clock ticked under five minutes.
• The Tars easily saw out the final minutes to leave St. Augustine with the victory.

 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to Winter Park where they will take on Concordia-St. Paul.  First draw is set for 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 10.
