SAINT LEO, Fla. (March 27, 2022) – The ninth-ranked Rollins baseball team lost a back-and-forth battle on Sunday at Saint Leo, 6-4, to drop the series two games to one. The Tars are now 22-7 on the year and 8-4 in conference play, while the Lions upped their mark to 21-10, 8-7 in SSC action.
Nick Santucci went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBIs, while
Parker Smith was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Cameron Meehan finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and
Ryan Coleman was 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
Austin Long drew his first start of the year, giving up two runs on two hits in 4.2 innings, walking two and striking out two.
Chase Achuff (0-1) was tagged with the loss, surrendering two runs on three hits in one inning of work.
Buck Anderson was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run for the Lions and Tyler Trovinger was 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored.
Charles Lefebvre started for Saint Leo, allowing two runs on two hits in 3.1 innings, walking two and striking out one. Nick Jennings (3-0) got the win, recording the final out of the eighth inning via a strikeout in his only batter faced. Jestin Jones came on to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fifth save.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Third Inning
- Back-to-back walks followed by a sacrifice bunt put Saint Leo in a prime scoring position in the third.
- Zach Benson delivered a two-run double to score both runners, putting the Lions up 2-0.
Fourth Inning
- The Tars wasted no time getting those runs back, as Achuff led off the fourth with a walk and Santucci followed with a two-run blast to tie things up.
- Two batters later, Meehan lifted a home run of his own to put Rollins up 3-2.
Sixth Inning
- Saint Leo opened the sixth with a walk and a single, and two batters later a base hit allowed Adrien Roa to score to tie game at three.
- Two batters after that, Trovinger singled to score another run to make it 4-3 Lions.
- Yazael Nunez then doubled home two more runs to put Saint Leo ahead 6-3.
Seventh Inning
- Coleman opened the seventh with a walk and Smith brought him home with a two-run shot to get the Tars back to within a run at 6-5.
Eighth Inning
- Achuff and Santucci kicked off the top of the eighth with back-to-back singles, and both runners were able to advance 90 feet on a Jeslyn Whitehead sac bunt.
- Meehan produced a run with an RBI groundout to tie the game, and Coleman followed up with a double to score Santucci, pushing the Tars back in front, 7-6.
- The lead would prove to be short-lived, however, as Anderson connected on a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom half to put the Lions back on top, 9-7.
Ninth Inning
- Jones retired all three Tars he faced in the ninth to close it out.

The Tars will return home for a three-game SSC series against Florida Southern next weekend. First pitch for the opening game of the series is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, April 1.
