SAINT LEO, Fla. (March 26, 2022) – The ninth-ranked Rollins baseball team dug itself an early hole on Saturday and Saint Leo held on for a 6-4 win to even the series at a game apiece. The loss drops the Tars to 22-6 overall and 8-3 in SSC play, while the Lions improve to 20-10, 7-7 in conference.
Jared Herron finished 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run, and two runs scored, while
Ryan Coleman was 1-for-4 with a solo home run.
Justin Alintoff (5-1) took the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits in three innings, picking up one strikeout.
Tate Stone-Frisina kept the Tars in the game with an effective relief outing, tossing five shutout innings with only one hit and two walks allowed, while striking out four.
Adrien Roa was 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run for Saint Leo, while Tyler Trovinger went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Dariel Fregio (5-2) went the distance, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits in a complete game effort, walking two and striking out 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Bobby Sparling singled home Sam Crail to open the scoring in the first.
Second Inning
- The Lions strung together four hits in the second to help produce four runs, putting the home team up 5-0 early.
Third Inning
- Herron got the Tars on the board with a leadoff homer in the third, cutting the deficit to 5-1.
- Roa got that run back for Saint Leo with a leadoff homer of his own in the bottom half of the inning.
Fifth Inning
- The Tars took advantage of a couple of Lion errors in the fifth to plate two runs, getting to within 6-3.
Sixth Inning
- For the second straight game Coleman homered, this time a solo shot that closed the gap to 6-4.
Ninth Inning
- Fregio retired the Tars in order in the ninth to close out the complete game win.

The Tars and Lions will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
