SAINT LEO, Fla. (March 25, 2022) – The ninth-ranked Rollins baseball team took care of business Friday night, downing Saint Leo by a score of 8-1 in the series opener. With the win, the Tars are now 22-5 on the year and 8-2 in conference, while the Lions dropped to 19-10, 6-7 in SSC games.

Adams Torres went 5-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI, while Jeslyn Whitehead was 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs. Ryan Coleman finished 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and Timothy Mira was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Sixth Inning
  • Torres led off the sixth with a base hit and Jeslyn Whitehead followed up with a base hit of his own, advancing Torres to third.
  • Two matters later, Cameron Meehan drew a walk to load the bases.
  • A wild pitch then allowed all three runners to advance 90 feet, scoring Torres.
  • Ryan Coleman proceeded to clear the rest of the bases with a three-run home run to put the Tars up 4-0.
Seventh Inning
  • With one out in the seventh, Chase Achuff and Torres produced back-to-back singles.
  • Achuff and Torres then pulled off a double steal to put both runners in scoring position.
  • Jeslyn Whitehead connected for a two-run single to build the lead to 6-0.
Eighth Inning
  • The Tars added a seventh run in the eighth on an odd baserunning play. As Mira struck out, Aidan Healy was caught stealing at second base, but that allowed Meehan to score from third.

  • Saint Leo got its lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.
Ninth Inning
  • A Torres triple with one out scored Achuff from first to restore the seven-run lead for the Tars at 8-1.

  • The Lions put two men on via the walk in the bottom of the ninth, but Cullen kept them off the scoreboard as he closed out the 8-1 win.
