WINTER PARK Fla. (March 19, 2022) – The Rollins softball team bounced back from Friday's loss with a pair of wins Saturday to sweep the doubleheader and win the series against Palm Beach Atlantic. The Tars won game one, 7-3, before dominating game two, 11-1 in five innings. The wins improve Rollins' record to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play, while the Sailfish fall to 10-13, 9-6 in SSC action.
Game 1 – Rollins 7, PBA 3
Ashley Worrell went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs for the Tars, while
Taylor Waters was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and two RBIs.
Jaden Walker finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run and
Grace Germer was 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and an RBI.
Emily MacMullen (9-1) tossed a complete game for Rollins, allowing three runs on nine hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Daylin Hejtmanek was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for PBA, while Janie McCloskey was 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Lacy Marty (2-2) took the loss, pitching the first 3.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Fourth Inning
- PBA got on the board first with three in the fourth.
- Briana Rodriguez singled home McCloskey with two outs to open the scoring.
- Hejtmanek followed that with a two-out, two-run single to extend the lead to 3-0.
- Chelsea Peace led off the bottom half with a four-pitch walk, which was followed immediately by a two-run home run from Worrell, trimming the deficit to 3-2.
- Tyler Jo Colby then singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Walker.
- Waters hit an 0-2 pitch down the right field line for an RBI double, scoring Colby to tie the game at 3-3.
- After Tristin Peace singled to advance Waters to third, Germer knocked Waters in with an RBI bunt single, putting the Tars on top, 4-3.
Fifth Inning
- The Tars busted out the big sticks in the fifth, extending their lead thanks to solo home runs from Worrell, Walker, and Waters, building the lead to 7-3.
Seventh Inning
- MacMullen finished what she started, allowing just a two-out single in the seventh as she wrapped up her seventh complete game of the season, securing the 7-3 win.
Game 2 – Rollins 11, PBA 1 (5 innings)
Walker went 2-for-3 in game two with a double and four RBIs, while
Raiven Bryant was 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBIs.
Chelsea Peace finished 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, an RBI, and three runs scored, and Worrell was 2-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and three runs scored.
Worrell also pitched a complete game, giving up just one unearned runs on two hits, walking one and striking out four.
Meredith Milam went 1-for-3 with a run scored for the Sailfish, while McCloskey was 1-for-2. Karen Vasquez (1-3) took the loss, surrendering five runs on four hits and a walk in one inning of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- After Germer was hit by the first pitch of the inning, Bryant hit the next pitch up the middle for a base hit.
- Chelsea Peace then singled to left, scoring Germer with the first run of the game.
- Worrell followed with a single to load the bases.
- Two batters later, Walker doubled to score two runs, giving Rollins a 3-0 lead.
Second Inning
- Lexi Moore drew a walk to lead off the second before Germer was once again hit by a pitch.
- After a pitching change, Bryant greeted the new pitcher, Cambria Artu, with a three-run homer to left, doubling the lead to 6-0.
- Chelsea Peace backed that up with a double and Worrell followed with a single, putting runners on the corners with still nobody out.
- After Worrell stole second, Colby knocked in Chelsea Peace with a sacrifice fly.
- Two batters later waters singled home Worrell to make it an 8-0 game.
Third Inning
- PBA got on the board in the third, scoring on a throwing error.
- After the first two batters were retired, the Tars used a pair of walks and three hits to score three two-out runs.
- Bryant started the two-out rally with an infield single, which was followed by walks to Chelsea Peace and Worrell, loading the bases.
- Colby then singled to score Bryant and Walker followed up with a single to score Chelsea Peace and Worrell, making it an 11-1 score.
Fifth Inning
- Worrell set down the Sailfish in order in the fifth, finishing a string of seven straight batters retired to finish the game, giving the Tars the 11-1 win via the eight-run rule.

The Tars will continue this homestand with another three-game SSC series next weekend. Game one is set for Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m.
