MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (March 1, 2022) – The sixth-seeded Rollins men's basketball team held a 37-28 halftime lead over third-seeded Barry in the SSC Quarterfinals on Tuesday night, but the Bucs came back with a big second half to win, 79-64. The victory moves Barry's overall mark to 19-7, while Rollins slips to 14-15.
Kyle Marion led all players with 20 points and
Hutton Yenor added 19 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Brooks Cluxton poured in 15 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while
Cade Long dished out a team-leading five assists.
Michael Schaefer led Barry with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting and collected eight rebounds. Jake Kakar added 14 points while Justinas Marcinkevicius scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high 16 boards. Nick Anderson (12 points) and Landon Kirkwood (11 points) also reached double-figures in scoring for the Bucs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
- Kirkwood hit a three on the opening possession to give Barry an early lead.
- A triple by Marion gave the Tars their first lead of the contest at 7-5 just over three minutes in.
- That three came as part of a 15-0 run that saw Rollins run out to a 17-5 lead just 6:30 into the game.
- The Tars maintained a comfortable lead throughout the half, carrying a 37-28 advantage into the break.
Second Half
- Barry worked to tie the game at 41 just over three minutes into the second half.
- A 23-4 run helped the Bucs turn a 39-31 deficit into a 54-34 advantage at the midway point of the half.
- The Tars were unable to answer back, trailing by at least six for the rest of the game.
- The Bucs scored the final five points to pull away for a 79-64 win.
