A solid pitching performance by MacMullen and timely hitting gives Rollins its third win of the tournament

GULF SHORES, Ala. (February 6, 2022) – The Rollins softball team improved to 3-0 on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Union (Tenn.) on the final day of the Gulf Shores Invitational. With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 0-3.

Tristin Peace and Jaden Walker each delivered RBIs for the Tars, while Tyler Jo was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Emily MacMullen (2-0) got her second win of the tournament with her second complete game, allowing just one run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Second Inning
  • Tyler Jo Colby opened the inning with a base hit through the left side.
  • Tristin Peace then reached on a fielder's choice that saw Colby advance to second on an error, putting two on with nobody out.
  • Two batters later, Walker hit an RBI grounder that scored Colby, and Walker reached second safely on an error on the play, which also advanced Tristin Peace to third base.
  • The Tars couldn't push across any more runs in the inning as Rollins left the bases loaded,
Fourth Inning
  • Union had its leadoff batter reach on a single and move to second on a sacrifice bunt.
  • Two batters later the Bulldogs got a two-out RBI single to tie the game at one.
  • Rollins threatened to answer right back, getting runners to second and third with only one out, but both runners would be stranded.
Fifth Inning
  • The Tars took advantage of another Bulldog error in the fifth to retake the lead.
  • Chelsea Peace reached on an error and advanced all the way to third on the play.
  • Two batters later, Tristin Peace hit a sac fly to score Chelsea Peace from third, giving the Tars a 2-1 lead.
