MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (February 5, 2022) – The Rollins women's basketball team hung with Florida Southern in the first half, trailing by only five points (29-24) at the half. The Bucs then outscored the Tars 18-7 in the third quarter and 16-9 in the fourth, leading the home team to a 63-40 victory. With the loss the Tars fall to 5-15 overall and 2-13 in conference play, while the Bucs improve to 12-6, 9-5 in SSC contests.
Isabella Prada led the Tars with nine points in nine minutes off the bench, while
Yoke Tassent and
Grace Alfieri each chipped in with six points. Maria Atanassov-Toma grabbed a team-ihgh eight rebounds and
Lucy Leen handed out three assists to go along with five points and seven boards.
Dasiah Thornton scored a game-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting to lead Barry. She also collected six rebounds and a game-high four steals. Nerea Baena had 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 19 minutes off the bench, while Emma Hergot added 11 points and a game-high 10 boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Barry scored the first four points of the game and built a seven-point lead (10-3) less than four minutes into the contest.
- A three from Alfieri cut the deficit to five (15-10) with 2:02 to play, but the Bucs ended the quarter with a 17-10 lead.
Second Quarter
- Barry hit a three to open the scoring in the second quarter, but Niya Pluviose and Tassent nailed triples on Rollins' next two possessions, trimming the deficit to just four (20-16) less than two minutes into the quarter.
- A 6-0 run for the Bucs put them back up by nine (28-19) with 2:05 to go.
- A jumper by Pluviose and a three from Alfieri got Rollins back within four (28-24) with 53 seconds left in the half.
- A Buccaneer free throw made it a 29-24 game at the break.
Third Quarter
- Barry broke the game open with a 13-0 run to pull out to a 45-27 lead with 2:11 left in the third.
- The Tars scored the next four points, but still trailed 47-31 after three.
Fourth Quarter
- Prada connected on back-to-back threes to open the scoring in the fourth, getting Rollins to within 10 (47-37) with 7:51 on the clock.
- The Bucs then scored the next 14 points, increasing their lead to 61-37 with 2:32 to play.
- Only five total points were scored in the closing minutes as Barry secured a 63-40 win.

Rollins will head to St. Petersburg to take on No. 15 Eckerd on Wednesday, February 9. That game is slated to tip at 5:30 p.m.
