WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 28, 2022) – The 22nd-ranked Rollins baseball team trailed headed to the bottom of the eighth on Monday, but an offensive explosion helped the Tars secure a 10-5 victory over visiting Findlay. The win moves the Tars' record to 10-2 on the season, while Findlay drops to 1-6.

Jeslyn Whitehead went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and four RBIs, while Joey Rubin finished 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Adams Torres was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Chase Achuff was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Kieran Casey started for Rollins, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits in 5.1 innings of work with four walks and four strikeouts. Ross Korosec (1-0) earned the win in relief, tossing the final two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit while striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Fourth Inning
  • Findlay got on the board first on a one-out RBI single from Mical.

  • Jeslyn Whitehead tripled home Achuff in the bottom half of the inning to immediately tie things up.
Fifth Inning
  • Kyle Bullock led off the fifth with a double and moved to third when he beat the throw on a fielder's choice that allowed Timothy Mira to reach.
  • Rubin then singled home Bullock to give Rollins a 2-1 lead.
  • Achuff followed with a base hit that loaded the bases, which allowed Torres and Jeslyn Whitehead to hit back-to-back sacrifice flies, stretching the Tar lead to 4-1.
Sixth Inning
  • Findlay answered right back in the sixth, with Mical singling home a run, Brandon Emer reaching on an RBI fielder's choice, and Lao singling home a run to tie the game at 4-4.
Seventh Inning
  • The Oilers took the lead in the seventh when Cam Farrar drove home Rogers with a sacrifice fly.
Eighth Inning
  • The Tars' bats came alive in the eighth as Rollins amassed six runs on four hits while sending 10 men to the plate.
  • Santucci led off with an eight-pitch walk and moved to third on a Cameron Meehan one-out single.
  • After Meehan stole second, Bullock drew a walk to put a Tar at every base.
  • Mira hit a sac fly to score Santucci to tie the game at 5-5.
  • Three pitches later, Rubin doubled to plate Bullock and Meehan, putting Rollins up 7-5.
  • After Achuff was hit by a pitch and the Oilers made a pitching change, Torres singled to score Rubin to make it 8-5.
  • Jeslyn Whitehead followed that with a double to right-center that scored Achuff and Torres, giving the Tars a commanding 10-5 lead.
Ninth Inning
  • Findlay got a leadoff single in the ninth, but that was all that Korosec would allow, as he got the final three outs to secure the Tars' ninth straight win.
