WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 27, 2022) – The Rollins softball team split a doubleheader with Wilmington on Sunday, falling in the first game by a score of 4-0 before roaring back for an 11-1 win in five innings in game two. With the split, the Tars are now 5-3 on the season, while the Wildcats are 1-1.

GAME 1 – WU 4, RC 0

Lexi Moore was 2-for-3 with a double, while Raiven Bryant and Ashley Troutman also went 2-for-3. Ashley Worrell (2-2) took the loss, going all seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits, walking three and striking out seven.

Lexi Moore (from Wilmington, no relation) went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored to lead the Wildcats. Tristyn Stewart was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Taylor Gillis was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Kylee Gunkel (1-0) got the win, tossing a complete game shutout, scattering eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Seventh Inning
  • Neither side put up much of an offensive threat until the seventh.
  • The Wildcats strung together three straight singles with one out to load the bases.
  • Moore then delivered a double to left-center that scored two; a third run came home on a throwing error to make it 3-0.
  • Stewart followed up with an infield single to score Moore, giving Wilmington a 4-0 lead.

  • The Tars could only manage a two-out single in the seventh as the Wildcats closed the door on a 4-0 win.

  • The Tars immediately responded, scoring six times in the bottom of the inning.
  • Grace Germer led off with a base hit and two batters later Troutman drew a walk.
  • Bryant then drilled a three-run shot to dead center, putting Rollins up 3-1.
  • After Chelsea Peace got on with a bunt single, Worrell singled up the middle.

  • Bryant hit a 1-1 pitch to right for a base hit to score Troutman, increasing the lead to 8-1.
  • Chelsea Peach followed that with a two-run homer to right-center, making it a 10-1 game
  • Worrell then singled and two batters later she came around to score on a Colby double, giving Rollins a commanding 11-1 lead.

Fifth Inning
