Tars Out Duel Lynn Down the Stretch

The Tars jumped out to an early lead, then held on late, to remain unbeaten

BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 26, 2022) – The Tars jumped out to an early lead, then held on late, to remain unbeaten, with a 14-13, non-conference, win over Lynn.  The No. 16 Tars improve to 4-0 overall.  Lynn drops to 0-3 in their 2022 campaign.

Marshall Ellison and Bailey Pringle each scored four goals for the Tars.  Pringle added a pair of assists to his stat line.  Grant Hansen dished out four assists, and contributed a pair of goals to equal Pringle's team high, six total points.  Jack Johnstone and Justin White also added two goals each.  The defense was led by three caused turnovers and four groundballs from Justin Isenhour.  Bradley Peterson made 13 saves, including six in the final 15 minutes, playing the full contest between the pipes for Rollins.

Matthew Ilchuck led all scorers with five goals and a pair of assists for Lynn.  Jalen Stanton added a hat trick.  Colin Casey and Benjamin Looges combined to make nine saves in net for the Fighting Knights.

Mark Ranieri and Thomas Garvin combined to give the Tars an 18-13 faceoff advantage.  Lynn still won the groundball battle, 27-25, but Rollins outshot the Fighting Knights 41- 31, on their way to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter:
  • The Tars grabbed an early lead when Grant Hansen found Bailey Pringle for the game's first score.
  • Hansen played a role in the next two goals as well, scoring the second before assisting Jack Johnstone on the Tars' third score.
  • Marshall Ellison then went on a tear scoring the games next three goals, one unassisted, one off a pass from Hanson, and one off a Finn Jent assist, to give Rollins a 6-0 lead, eight minutes into the contest.
  • Lynn rallied off three of their own, but Hansen found Justin White for a score in the final minute to give Rollins a 7-3 lead after one period.
Second Quarter
  • Lynn tallied the first two goals of the period, cutting the Tars' advantage to 7-5.
  • Pringle stopped the streak with his second goal of the game, but Lynn closed out the half with another pair of scores, and Rollins lead 8-7 at the break.
Third Quarter
  • The Fighting Knights equalized on their first possession of the second half, drawing level at 8-8.
  • Rollins responded with a Grant Hansen dodge and score to push the Tars back in front.
  • Lynn would take their first lead, scoring out of a timeout and converting a Rollins turnover into a goal, to give the Fighting Knights an 10-9 advantage.
  • Justin White would bring the teams on even footing again with an underhand rip off a pass from Pringle.
  • Pringle gave the Tars the lead back, completing his hat trick by breaking his defender's ankles behind the cage before depositing a low-to-low shot in the back of the Lynn net.  He senior atttackman then assisted Johnstone to put Rollins up a pair, and scored his fourth to give the Tars a 13-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Lynn pulled within two early in the quarter.  But a long range effort from Ellison reclaimed the three goal lead for Rollins.
  • The Fighting Knights pulled back within one, including an extra man score with just 90 second remaining in the contest.
