WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 19, 2022) – Behind another stellar pitching performance, the Rollins baseball team clinched its second straight series win on Saturday and its fifth straight win overall with a 4-0 defeat of Embry-Riddle. The victory moves Rollins to 6-2 on the year, while the Eagles drop to 1-7.
Nick Santucci went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run while
Joey Rubin was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.
Chase Achuff finished 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI, and
Jared Herron was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.
Justin Alintoff (2-0) was nearly unhittable, pitching eight scoreless innings with only three hits allowed, striking out 10 and not issuing a walk.
Michael Cullen pitched a scoreless ninth, surrendering just one hit.
Jeremy Kennedy-Davis was 2-for-3 to account for half the Eagle hits. Conner Dunnam (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in four innings, walking two and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Rubin led off the bottom of the first with a single and quickly came around to score on Achuff's RBI double to make it 1-0 Tars.
Third Inning
- Achuff led off the third by drawing a walk.
- Three batters later, Santucci drilled an 0-2 pitch over the scoreboard in right field for a two-run home run, making it 3-0.
Eighth Inning
- The Eagles threatened in the eighth, putting runners on first and second with two outs.
- Alintoff battled Kevin Vittoria through a nine-pitch at-bat, eventually striking him out on a 3-2 pitch to end the inning.
- Kyle Bullock led off the Tars' half of the eighth with a solid double to left-center.
- Andres Antonini moved him to third with a well-executed sacrifice bunt.
- Herron lifted a fly ball to deep center field, allowing Bullock to easily score from third on the sacrifice fly.
Ninth Inning
- Cullen gave up a leadoff single but immediately induced a 5-4-3 double play.
- He then got Max Law to ground out to end the game, securing back-to-back shutouts for the Tar pitching staff.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will go for the sweep of the series against Embry-Riddle tomorrow at Alfond Stadium at Harper-Shepherd Field. First pitch for the series finale is set for 12 p.m.
