Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev. (December 19, 2022) – Rollins wrapped up their annual Las Vegas trip on the wrong side of a 91-66 matchup with the #7 Missouri-St. Louis Tritons on Monday afternoon. The loss drops Rollins to 4-6 on the year.
The Tars came out with good energy, scoring the first six points of the ballgame on a
Hutton Yenor jumper and a pair of layups from
Matheus Silveira. Things went off the rail soon after as the Tritons got hot from the outside, and went on a 21-2 run over the next eight minutes of play.
Yenor converted a three-point play to snap the streak, but UMSL maintained a strong advantage for the rest of the half. Rollins did show more life in the final few minutes of the half, running a couple of nice offensive sets leading to paint points from
John Latimer III Yenor, and Silveira. Still, the Tritons held a 39-26 lead at the half.
Rollins shot 35% in the first half, but did not manage a conversion from three-point range, going 0-7. They were also plagued by turnovers, giving the ball to UMSL twelve times in the first period.
The second half saw the Tars start with more energy. Silveira overpowered the Tritons bigs, leading to six straight Rollins points on a dunk and two layups. A pair of free throws and a three from
Kyle Marion would cut the lead down to ten at the first media timeout, 47-37.
UMSL came out of the break hot, seemingly unable to miss from distance. An 11-0 run for the Tritons featured a trio of threes from Bowen Sandquist as they blew the game open, leading by as many as 21. After a couple makes from the Tars, the lead grew even further for UMSL, peaking at 28 points. The Tars' zone couldn't get to shooters in time, and the Tritons made them pay, shooting 18-37 (49%) from long range.
Yenor led Rollins with 16 points and four steals. Silveira added 13 points.
The Tars will enjoy a few days off for the holiday before returning to action at Eckerd on December 28.
