MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Dec. 16, 2022) – The Rollins men's swimming team earned its first dual meet victory of the season on Friday, defeating NAIA No. 2 St. Thomas by a score of 132-128 in Miami Gardens. The Tars now stand at 1-4 on the year, while the Bobcats fall to 4-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Tars grabbed a third-place finish in the day's first event, the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Sky Murphy, Tully Njoroge, Luke Dinges, and Trey Carter clocked a time of 1:37.46.
- Chance Ricca added another third-place finish with a 10:14.20 in the 1000-yard freestyle.
- Payden Knettles (1:47.86) and Bed Robertson (1:48.91) finished second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.
- Rollins got another 2-3 finish with Nick Bonta (54.67) and Jac ReVille (54.96) claiming second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke.
- The Tars pulled off a clean sweep in the 100-yard breastroke as Tully Njoroge (59.32), William Slowey (1:00.29), and Patrick Lester (1:01.07) swept the top three positions.
- The 200-yard butterfly made for another 1-2-3 finish with Dinges (1:58.57), Michael Tucker (1:59.71), and Samuel Brisch (2:02.19) the first three to touch the wall.
- Slowey grabbed an event win in the 50-yard freestyle with a top time of 21.75.
- Knettles took home his second runner-up finish with a 49.43 showing in the 100-yard freestyle.
- Bonta (1:57.20) and Ben Mann (1:58.92) placed second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke.
- Njoroge won his second event of the day with a time of 2:08.71 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
- Carter won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.32, while Ricca placed second in 4:49.85.
- Dinges (52.82) and Tucker (53.01) took second and third place, respectively, in the 100-yard butterfly.
- Slowey (1:58.64) and Njoroge (1:59.77) went 1-2 in the day's final individual event, the 200-yard individual medley.
- The quartet of Carter, Ricca, Colin McNew, and Slowey capped the day with a second-place time of 1:26.47 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
