WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 26, 2022) – The Rollins women's basketball team defeated Lincoln (PA) 68-63 in the consolation game of the Rollins Classic on Saturday afternoon. The win evens the Tars' mark at 3-3 on the year, while the Lions drop to an identical 3-3 record.
Lucy Leen led all players with 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting from behind the arc, while Aaliyah Irazarry-Perez chipped in with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and a team-high eight rebounds.
Claire Erickson added 10 points and three steals in 22 minutes off the bench.
Alaila Walker led the Lions with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from three-point territory, while Kayiona Willis poured in 12 points to go along with four rebounds and a game-high six assists. Anyssa Fields and D'Ayzha Atkinson each tallied 11 points and six rebounds, while Kania Pollock contribured 10 points, six boards, and four assists.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, Rollins' Irazarry-Perez and Lincoln's Pollock were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Irizarry-Perez scored the first points of the game with a layup at the 9:20 mark of the first.
- Leen's second triple of the game made it 10-0 Tars just under four minutes into the game, and the lead grew to 12-0 about 30 seconds later.
- Lincoln then went on a 15-5 run to get within two at 17-15, but two late Irizarry-Perez free throws gave the home team a 19-15 advantage after a quarter.
Second Quarter
- The Tars connected on just five field goals in the second quarter, but four of them were from distance, including a last-second triple from Emily McIntosh that gave Rollins a 33-26 halftime lead.
Third Quarter
- The Lions got to within a point at the 7:34 mark of the third, trailing 35-34, but a three from Emily Dogbatse kept Rollins in the lead.
- Irizarry-Perez scored a late layup to give the Tars a 47-42 lead heading to the final period.
Fourth Quarter
- Lincoln battled throughout the fourth, trimming the deficit to three points or fewer four different times.
- Erickson delivered a clutch three-point play at the 6:12 mark to re-establish a five-point lead (54-49).
- It was Erickson once again who hit two clutch free throws with just six seconds left to make it a four-point game, helping to secure the 68-63 win for the Tars.
