WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 16, 2022) - The ball simply did ot bounce the right way for Rollins on Wednesday night as they dropped their home opener against the Webber Warriors by a score of 57-47. The loss moves Rollins to 2-1 on the year, while Webber jumps to 1-4.
The Warriors got off to a quick start with a pair of threes ot go up six early on. A coast-to-coast rebound and layup by
Grace Alfieri put the Tars on the board, but Webber was quick to respond with back-to-back jump shots to go up 10-2. An Alfieri three, followed by a layup from
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez kept the Tars in it for a little while. However, Webber was able to end the quarter on a 6-2 run, and ended the first period up 18-9.Â
Irizarry and
Shannelle Heredia started the second with buckets from the block to cut into the Warrior lead. Moments later, a
Claire Erickson three-point play pulled the Tars within four at 20-16. after exchanging both points and turnovers for a while, the Rollins offense went cold, managing only one point in the last 4:10 of the half. They trailed at the break 38-24.Â
The defense stepped up in the third quarter, allowing only ten Warrior points on 4-14 shooting. The only problem was the Tars' offense also shot 4-14, and managed to score just eleven of their own. Irizarry had seven points in the quarter to lead the way. Rollins was plagued once again by a cold streak of 4+ minutes in the third.Â
The fourth quarter so another fantastic defensive effort, this time limiting Webber to only nine points. Rollins scored twelve in the quarter, led by six from Maria Atanassv-Tomas, but it was too little, too late as Webber would wind up with the 59-49 win.Â
Rollins did manage to win the rebound battle, snagging 43 boards. Alfieri led the way with seven, while Irizarry collected six.Â
The Tars will have a few days to get back in line before opening up conference play at home against Embry-Riddle on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm in Warden Arena.Â
