Rollins Bests Saint Leo in Home Opener

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Oct. 22, 2022) – In a close battle on Saturday, the Rollins women's swimming team narrowly defeated visiting Saint Leo, defeating the Lions by a score of 136-124. With the win, the Tars improve to 1-2 in dual meets this season, while Saint Leo is 0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The team of Leora Rose, Abigayle Wood, Emily Hennessy, and Dylan Beeson got the day started with a second-place time of 4:07.77 in the 400-yard medley relay.
  • Alonna Clark got the first event win of the day in the 1000-yard freestyle, posting a time of 10:39.99 to finish almost 25 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
  • Jill Hughes followed that up with a win in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.00.
  • Elizabeth Sander earned a second-place result with a time of 1:00.89 in the 100-yard backstroke.
  • Abigayle Wood was second in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:09.60.
  • Lauren Diehl placed second in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:12.36.
  • Sander got another second-place finish, this time in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.24.
  • Clark earned win number two with a first-place time of 55.60 in the 100-yard freestyle, and Beeson was close behind in second in 56.11.
  • Sander's third runner-up result came in the 200-yard backstroke where she posted a time of 2:10.74.
  • Katherine Canty narrowly missed out on an event win, finishing the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:26.76, just 0.13 seconds behind the winner.
  • Hughes earned her second victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a winning time of 5:15.98, while Elliot Fox claimed second place in 5:20.60.
  • Sarah Brown clocked a 59.73 in the 100-yard butterfly to place second.
  • Amelia Kondal got a second-place result in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 2:16.42.
  • Rollins capped the day with a runner-up finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with the quartet of Sander, Brown, Clark, and Hennessy posting a time of 1:40.69.

The Tars will head to Tampa to take on the No. 2-ranked Spartans in a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 12 p.m.
