WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 19, 2022) - The Rollins Tars received a huge confidence boost on Wednesday, earning a 2-2 draw against the #3 team in the country, the Embry-Riddle Eagles. Rollins, in the midst of a fight for the final playoff spot in the SSC, moves to 5-5-3 (2-4-1 SSC) on the year, while the Eagles remain unbeaten at 9-0-5 (4-0-5 SSC).
The first half of the game featured some of the best soccer the Tars have played all season. They controlled the pace, played tenacious defense, and created multiple scoring opportunities. They also racked up five corner kicks, including one in the 22nd minute.
Anna Todd kept it short to
Meghan Mosley, who drew a defender and kicked it back to Todd. From a nearly impossible angle, Todd was able to find the far post and ricochet the ball over the line to give Rollins a 1-0 lead.
Six minutes later, another opportunity arose from a free kick. Standing roughly 40 yards from the box,
Hunter Myers delivered a beautiful strike to the far side of the net for
Sophia Olore. The defender took advantage of the opportunity, striking the ball out of midair with her right foot and into the net for her first goal of the year. The Tars would take the 2-0 lead into halftime.
Embry-Riddle came out of the second half a new team, and showed why they are one of the top offensive squads in the country. In the 54th minute, off a free kick, Isabelle Navren found the middle of the box where teammate Savanna Sheahan was able to head the ball into the box to put the Eagles on the board.
On the ensuing kickoff, both teams battled for the ball around midfield, leading to a foul on the Tars and a free kick for the Eagles. Again, Navren delivered an absolute strike to Kaitlyn Kogl who leaned forward and used her back to sneak the ball past
Elena Beasley to tie the game at two each.
The final 37 minutes played to a stalemate as both defenses turned way up and did not allow good looks for either side.
Each team managed four shots on goal, and each goalie recorded two saves.
Next up for the Tars is a road game at Palm Beac Atlantic on Saturday, October 22. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
