Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Sailfish Swim Past Tars

Rollins was defeated by Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday evening

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 22, 2022) - An early setback put the women's soccer team in a hole they could not dig out from, as they fell the the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 3-2 on Saturday evening. The loss drops the Tars to 5-6-3 (2-5-1 SSC) on the year, while Palm Beach Atlantic earned their second win of the year to move to 2-8-3 (1-5-2 SSC).

It was a tough start for the Tars as they allowed the Sailfish to get on the board in the second minute of the game. Working off a pass from Krysta Memis, Kendall Furrow was able to fire a shot past Elena Beasley to put Palm Beach Atlantic up 1-0.

The remainder of the half skewed towards PBA's favor, but the Tars held strong. Beasley saw nine shots come her way in the first half, wth four on goal. She saved three of them. Meanwhile, the Rollins offense only managed two shots (one on goal) in the first half.

The beginning of the first half saw a more energetic Tars attack, though it took a while for them to break through. In fact, before Rollins made it on the board, the Sailfish managed a second goal from Erin Cepeda in the 63rd minute to take a 2-0 lead.

With their backs against the wall, Rollins had a surge from their offense. Defenseman Anna Todd found herself with a clean look in the 66th minute, and put the Tars in the scoring column with her fourth goal of the season. Riding the momentum, Rollins had another chance six minutes later when Lexie Cooper created enough space to work a ball past Gaby Lopez to equalize the score at two all.

Unfortunately for the Tars, the Sailfish were able to counter with a goal of their own in the 78th minute when Anna Vila found teammate Krysta Memis for the go-ahead score in what would end up being the final goal of the game.

Though it was a tough loss, it was nice to Rollins turn up the attack in the second half. The Tars fired nine total shots with seven on goal in the second period.

Next up for Rollins is a road match against the Florida Southern Mocs in Lakeland on Tuesday, October 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
