Women’s Swimming Drops Season Opener at No. 10 Florida Southern

Rollins earned three event wins on Friday

LAKELAND, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2022) – The Rollins women's swimming team fell in its season opener on Friday at 10th-ranked Florida Southern, 146-110 in Lakeland. The Tars move to 0-1 in dual meets this year, while the Mocs are now 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Alonna Clark won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:12.40, finishing over seven seconds ahead of the runner-up, with Jill Hughes taking third in 5:23.26.
  • The quartet of Elizabeth Sander, Sarah Brown, Lydia Bohannon, and Dylan Beeson won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:40.58, with the "B" team of Amelia Kondal, Alonna Clark, Emily Hennessy, and Katherine Canty finishing second in 1:42.56.
  • Rollins' team of Leora Rose, Abigayle Wood, Brown, and Beeson finished third in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.63.
  • Hughes (10:57.39) was second in the 1000-yard freestyle, while Elliot Fox (11:07.31) was third.
  • Clark posted a third-place time of 1:59.15 in the 200-yard freestyle.
  • Sander placed second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.54, followed by Rose in third in 1:02.08.
  • Wood was third in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:07.85.
  • Lauren Diehl finished the 200-yard butterfly in 2:11.68, good for third place.
  • Sander came back to place second in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.28, narrowly edging Beeson's third-place time of 25.39.
  • Fox took second place in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.35, with Rose just behind her in third place in 2:15.84.
  • Brooke Postell finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.44, while Wood was third in 2:26.94.
  • Brown was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:00.26, while Bohannon took third in 1:00.85.
  • Wood took second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.84, while Kondal was third in 2:15.19.

The Tars will travel to Fort Lauderdale tomorrow to take on No. 1 Nova Southeastern in another dual meet slated to begin at 12 p.m.
