Panthers Prevail over Tars

Florida Tech defeated Rollins 3-1 on Wednesday evening in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla. (October 12, 2022) - The Rollins Tars fell into an early hole against the Florida Tech Panthers, and could never claw their way out, eventually falling by a score of 3-1. The loss moves Rollins to 5-4-2 (2-3 SSC) while Florida Tech improves to 6-3-1 (4-2 SSC).

Rollins managed the first two shots of the game, but one was saved and the other was off target. After a few minutes of back-and-forth, the Panthers took advantage of their first opportunity when Katie Frazier found the net off a feed from Halla Helgadottir. Then, only two minutes later, Tech struck again when Mayara Queiroz Reis scored off a ball that had been punched out of the box by Tars goalie Michelle Fickett. Rollins only managed one more shot in the half, and went into the break down 2-0.

The second half was relatively uneventful for the first 25 minutes. The Tars found new life in the 74th minute when a push into the Panthers zone caught Florida Tech off-guard and scrambling on defense. An initial attack was blocked by the Panthers' keeper, but the rebound found it's way to the foot of Gabby Boyd. She then found teammate Kayla Park who ripped a missile from deep, freezing the keeper and putting the Tars on the board.

Unfortunately, Rollins only managed two more shots (one on goal) for the rest of the match. Florida Tech added a final goal in the last thirty seconds to make the final of 3-1.

Next up for the Tars is a home match, their first since September 17th, against the visiting Tampa Spartans. They will kickoff at 7:00 pm on Saturday, October 15 at Cahall-Sandspur Field.
