SAINT LEO, Fla. (January 15, 2022) – The Rollins women's basketball team fell behind early on Saturday, trailing 24-9 after one quarter and 54-25 at halftime. Though the Tars did outscore the Lions in the second half, Saint Leo came away with a 93-66 win. With the loss the Tars fall to 4-10 overall and 1-8 in conference play, while the Lions improve to 12-5, 7-2 in SSC contests.
Lucy Leen led Rollins with 18 points, while
Niya Pluviose chipped in with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Grace Alfieri hauled in a team-high six rebounds off ther bench while
Maria Atanassov-Tomas compiled four points, four assists, and four rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench.
The Lions were led by Kiki McIntyre's 26 points on 12-of-17 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds and a game-high five steals. Amanda Ulrich scored 19 points and grabbed six boards, while Ayanna Trigg registered a double-double with 16 points (5-of-7 FGs) and 10 rebounds while also dishing out a game-high eight assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- The Lions scored the game's first two points just four seconds into the contest.
- At the 6:00 mark, Saint Leo had built an 11-0 lead.
- The Tars hit three triples in the quarter, but the Lions ran out to a 24-9 lead in the first ten minutes.
Second Quarter
- Rollins' offense was better in the second quarter, hitting five field goals, but Saint Leo shot 64.71% from the field and made 8-of-9 free throws.
- Saint Leo increased its lead to 32 (54-22) before a Caroline Swartz three at the buzzer made it 54-25 at the break.
Third Quarter
- Rollins started the second half strong, using a pair of 5-0 spurts to cut into the deficit, making it a 61-37 game with 6:30 left in the quarter.
- Saint Leo continued to shoot the ball well, making 7-of-13 field goals in the period.
- The Tars outscored the Lions 24-19 in the frame, but still trailed 73-49.
Fourth Quarter
- Rollins went ona 7-0 run keyed by five points from Kymora Westerfield to get the margin below 20 (75-56) less than two minutes into the fourth quarter.
- Saint Leo responded with an 11-0 run to make it 86-56 with 5:12 to play.
- The Tars held the Lions below 50% from the field in the quarter (7-of-15), but Saint Leo cruised to a 93-66 win.
