Tars Narrowly Miss Upset Against No. 2 Mississippi College

Rollins falls to 0-2-0 with the early season defeat

COLUMBUS, Ga. (September 5, 2021) – The Tars dropped a tight battle with No. 2 Mississippi College, 2-1 to finish their season opening games at the CSU Collegiate Invitational.  Rollins falls to 0-2-0 with the early season defeat.  The Choctaws earn their first win, and move to 1-1-0 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
  • The Tars got on the board early, at the nine minute mark.  Briyah Drayton intercepted an errant Choctaw pass, fought off her defender, and poked the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper, into the back of the net
  • Mississippi College equalized late in the period.   Holly Pascoe sent a cross to Avery Hederman at the top of the box. The Choctaw star struck the bouncing ball into the side netting, tying the score at 1-1.
  • Elena Beasley finished the first half with four saves.
Second Half
  • Mississippi College took the lead early in the second 45 minutes. This time it was Erin Hedrman, who dribbled into the Rollins box and fired a shot past Beasley.
  • In the 75th minute Kaylee Foster clipped Chynna McGirt's heels while the Tars' senior was clear on goal.  The ref showed a red card and the Choctaws were forced to play out the contest with 10 players.
  • The Tars were unable to convert on their advantage, as the final 15 minutes ticked off the clock.
