Tars Control Panthers for First Win

The Tars outshot the Panthers 23-0 in the 2-0 win

WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 10, 2021) – The Tars picked up their first win of the year by opening their home slate with a 2-0 victory over Davenport, under the lights at Cahall-Sandspur Field.  Rollins improves to 1-2-0 overall, while the Panthers fall to 0-3-0 in the young season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
  • The Tars dominated play in the first 45 minutes, controlling much of the possession, and limiting the Tigers to very few attacking opportunities.  Rollins out-shot West Alabama 15-0 in the half, and four of those shots were on target.
  • Despite the dominance, the Tars break through would not come until late in the period.  In the 44th minute Sophia Olore lofted a long ball over the Panther backline.  Chynna McGirt got on the end of the pass and drove the ball over the keeper, from a severe angel, giving Rollins a deserved lead.
  • The assist by Olore was her first point in the Blue and Gold.
Second Half
  • The Tars continued to create the most dangerous chances, and continued to limit any opportunity for the Panthers, in the second 45 minutes.
  • Rollins would double their lead in the 73rd minute when Jessie Wade opened her Rollins account with a long distance effort that found its way into the bottom corner of the net.
  • Rollins control extended for the full 90 minutes, as the Tars out-shot the Panthers 23-0 for the game.
COACH SAYS:
"We had a good team performance tonight as we created many chances.  We hit the crossbar on two occasions, and we got two goals that were a product of the hard work of our defense and our midfielders, who allowed our forwards to get into good positions.  The work rate was tremendous from every player." - Head Women's Soccer Coach Alicia Schuck

UP NEXT:
Rollins faces a stiff test on Sunday, September 12, when No. 1 Flagler makes the trip to Winter Park.  Kickoff between the Tars and Saints is set for 11:30 a.m.
