Knights Outduel Tars

Lynn swept Rollins 3-0 on Saturday in Winter Park

WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 25, 2021) - Rollins dropped their second Sunshine State Conference home match of the weekend on Saturday afternoon, losing 3-0 to the Lynn Fighting Knights. The Tars move to 3-9, (0-4 SSC) on the season while Lynn evens up their season record to 5-5, (2-1 SSC).
  • The first set saw Lynn jump out to an early 8-4 lead, thanks in large part to five straight Knights points, four of which were the result of Rollins miscues. The Tars did not fold however, battling back to tie the game at 13 all. Form there, it was punch for punch as the two teams would tie each other six more times before the final point was scored. A late four point streak from the Knights put the set out of reach as they took it 25-22. Rollins actually outkilled Lynn 11-8, but were done in by four service errors and nine attack errors. Riley Spurlin had four kills to lead the Tars attack.
  • Set two was all Lynn. After jumping out to a modest 2-0 lead, they did not allow Rollins to take a lead or even tie the game as they cruised to a 25-13 win. The Knights tallied eleven kills at a strong .364% while Rollins countered with nine ills at .148%.
  • With the home crowd behind them, Rollins came out hot in the set three, securing the first four points. Lynn was quick to respond with four of their own to force the first of six ties in the set. Exceptional hustle from both sides led to a number of extended rallies, and kept things close. With the score 20-19, Lynn earned two quick points on a Rollins service error, followed by an ace on the ensuing serve. The Tars were not able to come back form the deficit, dropping the final set 25-21.
  • Lana Gerard had a nice all-around game for the Tars, leading the team with nine kills to go with three blocks, an ace, and a dig. Andie Baldridge had her best game of the season with six kills. Charlie Durbin totaled twelve digs, with a handful of highlight reel dives to keep her team alive.
  • Next up for the Tars is a road match against SSC foe Florida Tech in Melbourne on Tuesday night. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
