WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 24, 2021) - Palm Beach Atlantic earned a hard-fought win over Rollins in Winter Park on Friday evening, winning three sets to zero. With the loss, the Tars drop to 3-8 on the year while the Sailfish move to 5-6.
- Both teams had a bit of a shaky start in the first set, committing a total of 13 attack errors. However, the game stayed close throughout. with the teams tying each other twelve separate times on the way to 25. Riley Spurlin and Emma Begley led the Tars' attack with three kills a piece. Amber Rowoldt and Mary Morgan Formby led the Sailfish attack.
- The second set was even tighter than the first. Rollins came out hot, holding as high as a seven point lead at 11-4. However, the Sailfish hung around, chipping away at the lead. Six attack errors and a handful of mishit serves would prove costly for the Tars as Palm Beach Atlantic mounted their comeback. The highlight of the set came with PBA holding a 24-23 lead. As they attempted to seal the win with an attack, a monster solo block from Alexis Yeager turned the table and tied things up. Unfortunately, the Sailfish secured the next two points to lock up the win, 26-24.Â
- Rollins showed fight in the third set with another tight match. The teams tied each other eight times, and had four lead changes. In the end, sixteen kills for the Sailfish proved to be too much for the Tars as Palm Beach Atlantic took the final set 25-21.Â
- Spurlin and Lana Gerard each had nine kills to lead Rollins. Yeager had one of her best performances of the young season, totaling four solo blocks and five total. Rebecca Kuehn was the leading helper with 23 assists, while Charlie Durbin offered 13 digs for Rollins.
- This game was the annual Colorful and Courageous night for Tars volleyball. Fans brought coloring books, crayons, colored pencils and markers that will be distributed to local pediatric cancer patients. Both teams wore tie-dye shirts during warmups, with the Tars throwing shirts into the crowd during pre-game lineups as well.
