Tars and Mocs Battle to Draw

The Tars went to Lakeland and earned a point in their SSC opener

LAKELAND, Fla. (September 22, 2021) – The Tars and Mocs battled late into the Florida night, after waiting out a weather delay and two periods overtime, the two teams could not be separated, and the match ended 2-2.  Rollins moves to 3-1-2 overall, and start Sunshine State Conference action at 0-0-1.  Florida Southern now carries a 1-3-3 record, and a 0-1-1 conference mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
  • Florida Southern got on the board early when Alberto Diaz delivered a blast from outside the box that flew by the reach of a diving Maximillian Obermeier.
  • Rollins would equalize in the 27th minute.  The Tars earned a corner kick, which Nazar Tsaruk put into a dangerous area.  Georgios Koliniatis got on the end of the kick and put the ball in the roof of the net, tallying his fifth score of the year.
  • Rollins outshot the Mocs six to three, and put three attempts on target, against Florida Southern's one.
Second Half
  • Florida Southern reclaimed their lead at the midway point of the second half.  Daniel Miranda fought off Rollins defenders and tapped a deflected cross in an open net.
  • The Tars waited until late in the contest to grab their second tally.  The Mocs missed on a chance to clear a low cross at the top of the box.  The ball instead fell to Dominic Adomakoh and he slid a low shot into the back of net and sent the game to overtime.
First Overtime
  • Up and down action saw both teams earn half chances, but neither team could grab a winner.
Second Overtime
  • Rollins controlled the first eight minutes of the second overtime, but could not capitalize on any of their opportunities.
  • The Mocs earned a pair of chances late in the period, and Obermeier was called into the action twice to save the Tars hopes of a point.  First, the junior made a diving stop on a Florida Southern shot produced from a set piece opportunity near the edge of the box, then the German shut down a Florida Southern breakaway in the final seconds, capping the contest.
