Tars Fall Against Undefeated Embry-Riddle

Rollins lost 3-0 in Daytona on Saturday afternoon

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 18, 2021) - For the second consecutive day, Rollins suffered a tough loss against an undefeated SSC foe. The Embry-Riddle Eagles (10-0) swept all three sets against Rollins (3-7) on Saturday afternoon.
  • The two teams started off neck-and-neck in the first set, tying the game on eight separate occasions. After falling behind 18-14, the Tars were able to battle back by taking five of the next six points thanks to a trio of kills, a Jessika Linnemeyer ace, and an ERAU attack error to tie the game at 19 all. Unfortunately, back-to-back service aces from Cameron Gilleland and a kill from Jaden McBride gave the Eagles the 25-22 win in set one. Emma Begley continued her strong defensive play with three blocks.
  • Rollins showed some fatigue in the second set. The Tars, playing their second road game in as many days, fell into a 10-1 hole to begin the second set, thanks in large part to five errors. They did not give up however, and showed toughness by taking nine of twelve points halfway through the set to pull within three at 16-13. The momentum did not carry through the rest of the match as Embry-Riddle was able to refocus and come away with a 25-18 win.
  • Another early deficit doomed the Tars in the third set as they fell behind 7-0 and eventually lost 25-11.
  • Lana Gerard was the top attacker with six kills. Emma Begley finished with six total blocks (two solo) and three kills.
Rollins will host their first home SSC match on Friday, September 24 against Palm Beach Atlantic. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 pm. For the first time since fall of 2019, fans will be allowed to attend the match in person. Please refer to the "Fan Policy" banner on the front page of RollinsSports.com for more information.
