WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 2, 2021) – The Tars avenged their lone loss of 2021, defeating the Tampa Spartans, 14-8, on a hot day at Barker Family Stadium. With the win Rollins ends the regular season at 6-1, and 5-1 in Sunshine State Conference action. The Spartans fall to 7-2, and remain at 5-1 in conference play.
Â
Liz Fahey and
Abigail Cawley each netted hat tricks to lead the Tars' scoring efforts. Fahey added a pair of assists to pace the team with five points.Â
Eden Cooke tallied a pair of goals and a pair of assists, good for four points.Â
Gabby Tanner starred for Rollins, making 12 saves, while allowing only eight goals, in net for the Tars.
Â
Tampa was led by a pair of scores from Emma McLoughlin. Olivia Mott tallied a goal and an assist, good for two points. Bridget Sutter and Alex Walling each saw action between the pipes for the Spartans.
Â
The Tars started the day hot, jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. The six goal streak featured five goal scorers,
Abigail Cawley got the run started, and she was followed by
Liz Fahey,
Marina Longo,
Caroline Gastonguay, Fahey's second, and
Eden Cooke. Hannah Bush scored Tampa's first, with Rollins in the penalty box, to break the shut out. Fahey then assisted Gastonguay, and
Sammy Ottimo carved through the Spartan defense for an unassisted effort, reclaiming momentum for the Tars. The two teams would trade scores after the 12 minute mark, and Rollins took a 10-4 lead into the break.
Â
Lizzie Pierpont opened the second half with a Tampa tally, cutting the deficit to five, but the Rollins lead would never shrink below that margin. The Fahey, Gastonguay connection restored the six goal advantage, before Cawley and
Eden Cooke teamed up to make score 12-5. The Tars endured a 15 minute scoring draft; however, the defense and
Gabby Tanner kept Rollins in front only allowing Tampa to tally twice. A Cooke free position shot broke the scoring dry spell, and made the score 13-7. Tampa would cut the lead to five for a final time just under the 10 minute mark.Â
Isabella Cecchi then put an exclamation point on the game, taking the ball coast-to-coast and rocketing her first collegiate goal into the back of the net. Rollins slowed the game down for the final minutes, and the defense clamped down to see out the victory.
