TAMPA, Fla. (April 9, 2021) - The Rollins Tars fell to the Tampa Spartans 3-0 on Friday night, losing 25-17, 25-15, and 25-13.
The match started with a tight first set as both teams battled to a 14-14 tie. The Spartans were able to pull away however, scoring eight of the next nine points to take a commanding lead. The Tars tried to come back, but ultimately fell short before falling 25-17. The Tars managed eight kills in the set, with five coming from freshman
Emily Diaz.
Tampa continued their attack in the second set as they used the power of Sorrel Houghton and Kalli Cors to jump out to an early lead. The Tars defense at the net struggled during the set, allowing 17 kills from the Spartans. Rollins only committed three errors in the set, but could not match the firepower of Tampa's offense, losing 25-15. The third set saw much of the same as Tampa collected 12 kills against Rollins' four before clinching the match with a 25-13 win.
