Tars Sweep Their Way to First Win of the Season

Rollins defeated Eckerd on the road 7-0 on Friday

Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 9, 2021) - The Rollins Tars earned their first win of the season in convincing fashion, sweeping the Eckerd Tritons 7-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Tars did not lose a single matchup on the day. They claimed the first point with three doubles wins. The first team to finish was Denis Golubev and Efe Comu, who beat Alejandro Vuconovic and Eduardo Ruggiano by a score of 6-1. Andrea Brignacca and Charlie Putrino improved to 3-2 on the year out of first doubles with a 6-2 win over Pierre Olivier Lasalle and Prakrut Patel. Court three had a tighter game, but in the end Mikkel Baumann and Freddy Danielson outlasted Sam Walker and Cristian Kearns, 7-5.

Singles play saw Rollins dominate all six matchups. The first to finish was Comu on singles five, earning an early win against Ruggiano 6-1, 3-0 (ret.). Moritz Stenzer was the next to finish on court six where he earned his first win of the year 6-1, 6-1 over Vuconovic. The match was then clinched with Rollins' fourth point of the day coming from court four where Putrino defeated Kearns by a score of 6-0, 6-2.

Golubev picked up his second win out of first singles with an impressive 6-2, 6-1 victory over Lassalle. That was followed by Baumann earning his point against Walker on court three, 6-3, 6-3. The day then wrapped on court two where Brignacca had to fight a bit harder than his teammates, but eventually came out on top with a 7-5, 6-1 win against Patel. 

The victory moves the Tars to 1-4 on the year while the Tritons fall to 0-5. Rollins will have two more matches before the year ends. They travel to Florida Southern on Wednesday, April 14 and then close things out at home on Saturday, April 17 versus Palm Beach Atlantic.
