Tars Prevail in Shootout with Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. (April 24, 2021) – The Tars recovered from an early deficit to win a shootout, 17-14, over Florida Southern on hot afternoon at Moccasin Field.  The Tars improve to 4-2 overall, and sit at 3-2 in Sunshine State Conference play.  The Mocs drop to 1-5 overall, and 1-4 against conference opposition.
 
Ryan Dunn starred on the offensive side of the ball, finding the back of the net five times, while also adding three assists, tying for a career high, with eight points.  Bailey Pringle scored twice and also dished out three helpers, for a total of five points.  Finn Jent and Connor Coltharp each added a pair of tallies. Chase Snyder led the defensive unit by causing four turnovers and picking up seven groundballs.  Kyle Sudol and Cam Reeves split time facing off, while Patrick Thomas and Cody Iserman shared responsibilities in net.
 
Jeff Atlas led the Mocs with four goals, while Cody Bielec and Edward May each scored a pair.   Kevin Horwitz won 21-34 faceoffs for Florida Southern.  Matt Halperin and Maxwell Freestone each saw time between the pipes for the Mocs.
 
Bailey Pringle got the Tars on the board first, but the Mocs equalized with a Jeff Atlas goal.  After Connor Coltharp put Rollins on top 2-1, the Mocs went on a run, tallying the next three.  Brandon Carlin sliced into the Mocs' advantage, but Florida Southern responded with another three goal run.  Finn Jent registered his first goal to close the first quarter with the scoreboard showing 7-4, with the home team on top.
 
Atlas scored a man-up goal to give Florida Southern an 8-4 lead early in the second quarter.  Rollins found their footing just after the ten-minute mark.  Ryan Dunn scored his first to start a three goal stretch for the Tars.  The run also featured an extra man tally by Blake Buell, and a Marshall Ellison score.  The Mocs broke the streak with a man down goal with just under three minutes left, making the score 9-7.  The Tars would find the back of the net two more times in the period, a Jack Lambert man-up score, and Dunn's second, with seven second remaining on the clock, drew Rollins even, 9-9, at the break.
 
Rollins kept their foot on the gas coming out of the locker room.  The teams traded goals to start the third quarter, before the Tars went on another three goal to take a lead they would never relinquish.  Dunn, Jent, and Peyton Miller made the score 14-11, heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
 
Bielec brought Florida Southern within two to open the fourth quarter.  Justin Spencer registered a man-up score to regain Rollins three goal lead.  Coltharp and Pringle found the back of the net to give Rollins a 17-12 lead with nine minutes to play.  Florida Southern netted a pair of extra-man goals over the next four minutes to make the score 17-14.  Rollins defense locked down for the final minutes, and secured the victory.
