MELBOURNE, Fla. (April 17, 2021) – Rollins struggled on the road, as they close their spring campaign with a 3-0 defeat against Florida Tech. The Panthers won the sets 25-15, 25-11, 25-12. Rollins drops to 0-10 to end their abridged season, while Florida Tech improves to .500, at 2-2.
Â
Candace Doxey and
Marlee Johnson paced Rollins with six kills each.Â
Rebecca Kuehn tallied 19 assists, while
Jessika Linnemeyer recorded 14 digs. At the net the Tars were led by
Emma Begley who tallied a pair of blocks.
Â
Florida Tech got 10 kills from Christina Mayberry. The senior also led the Panthers with five blocks, including two solo efforts. Anna Harry registered 17 assists, while Audrey Keenan recorded 11 digs.
Â
Emma Begley led the Tars to big lead to begin the first set. The freshman slammed two kills and registered a service ace to help the Tars to a 7-1 lead. The Panthers would respond with 11 of the next 14 points to take a 12-10 lead. The Tars would then score three straight, two of which came on
Emily Diaz kills, to retake the advantage 13-12, but Florida Tech would take control from there. The Panthers used runs of five, four, and four to take the first set by a score of 25-15.
Â
Florida Tech controlled the second set from start to finish. A
Candace Doxey kill brought Rollins level at 2-2, but that was the last time the set was in doubt. The Panthers used a five score run to extend their lead to 12-5. Rollins would take the next two points to cut the lead to five, but that was as close as Rollins would get. Florida Tech extended their cushion down the stretch, taking set two 25-11.
Â
The third set resembled the second, with Rollins not able to withstand an early Florida Tech onslaught. The Tars struggled to hold serve, only winning consecutive points once in the set, coming on kills by Doxey and
Abbie Tutor, that made the score 17-10. From that point the Panthers scored eight of the next ten points to seal the sweep.
Â
This was the final contest in Rollins shortened spring season.
