Tars Double-Up Sailfish on the Road

The Tars defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, 10-5, behind a banner day for freshman goal keeper Patrick Thomas

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 17, 2021) – The Tars defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, 10-5, behind a banner day for freshman goal keeper Patrick Thomas.  Rollins improves to 3-2 overall, and 3-2 in the Sunshine State Conference.  Palm Beach Atlantic remains winless, at 0-5 overall, and 0-4 against conference opposition.

Ryan Dunn led the Tars attacking unit, pouring in four goals and adding a pair of assists, good for six points.  Bailey Pringle, Connor Coltharp, Finn Jent, Grant Long, Blake Buell, and Rob Champigny all tallied once.  Chase Snyder forced six Sailfish turnovers, the third most ever in a single game by an SSC lacrosse player.  Patrick Thomas starred in net, stopping 14 shots, good for a 74% save percentage.

Henry Sloyan tallied a pair of goals to lead Palm Beach Atlantic.  Gerrit Kurtycz kept the game close, matching Thomas, making 14 saves, while allowing ten goals, good for a 58% save percentage.

The Tars tallied the only goals of the first quarter, jumping out to a 2-0 lead.  Rob Champigny tallied his first goal in the Blue and Gold, streaking down the field on a fast break and attacking an off balance Sailfish defense before firing a low shot into the net.  Dunn found a wide open Coltharp to double the Tars advantage in the final minute of the period.

Dunn attacked from behind the cage, and beet his defender to the top-side, netting his first and making the score 3-0 early in the second quarter.  Palm Beach Atlantic pulled two goals back before Grant Long fired a bounce shot into the top corner to restore Rollins two goal cushion just before halftime.

The Tars outscored the Sailfish 4-2 in the third quarter.  Bailey Pringle dodged underneath his defender and finished a long angle shot of the post to open the second half scoring.  Dunn got a feed from Brandon Carlin to score his second of the afternoon and make the score 6-2.  After a PBA extra man goal, Finn Jent responded with a man-up score for the Tars.  Dunn would complete his hat trick late in the third, giving Rollins a five goal advantage, at 8-3, but the Sailfish would find a last second tally to go into the fourth down just four.

Blake Buell fired a shot into the left corner of the goal early in the third to grow the Rollins lead back to five.  Ryan Dunn would use early offense to take advantage of an unsettles defense to find his fourth goal, and make the score 10-4.  The Rollins defense clamped own late, as the Sailfish managed just one score in the final 15 minutes, and Rollins got on the bus with a victory.
