ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 28, 2021) - The Rollins women's tennis team put together their best effort of the young season on Sunday, earning all seven points in a sweep of the Eckerd Tritons at the Bullard Courts in St. Petersburg.
The day started with a sweep of doubles matches.
Kaitlynn Groves and
Eve Wasil played from court three, defeating Cassidy Lear and Angelina Kossoff 6-1. The point was secured at court one where
Alexandra Borg and
Georgina Groth kept their perfect doubles record intact with a 6-0 win over Taylor Selby and Alexis Kwasnik. The duo now stands at 5-0 on the season. Then for good measure,
Polina Vlasova and
Maria McKay got past Theo Schultz and Lili Reichert 6-1 on court two.
In singles play, the Tars dominated on all six courts. For the first time this season, Borg played out of singles two, and earned her first win of the year, 6-0, 6-1 against Lear. Vlasova was the next to earn a victory as she defeated Kwasnik 6-0, 6-1. The match-clinching fourth point came from court three where Groves made light work of Reichert with a 6-0, 6-1 win. It was the third singles win in a row for the junior. The last three wins came from
Maria McKay on court six,
Eve Wasil on court five, and
Georgina Groth, who won her first match of the year on singles one over Selby, 6-3, 6-3.
Rollins will have one day to rest up before their next match at home on Tuesday, March 30 when the #8 Saint Leo Lions come to Winter Park.
