SET UP:
Rollins will see their first action of the season with a pair of games on Saturday against the nationally ranked Barry Buccaneers (1-1, 1-0 SSC). First pitch of game one, which will be a nine-inning contest, is slated for 2:00 p.m. Game two, a seven-inning affair, will begin roughly 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
Rollins:
The Tars are coming off a 13-8 finish during the shortened 2020 season. They return the bulk of their offensive lineup, including the top eight positional starters from last year. Junior OF
Cameron Meehan was the team leader in more than a dozen categories in 2020, and will look to start off strong again. The Tars also added a number of impressive freshmen and transfers, including SS
Drew Howard (Polk State) and OF
Logan Riedel (Broward) who will compete for playing time early on.
Â
On the mound, the Tars have a deep stable of arms to choose from with the return of
Tate Stone-Frisina,
Carson Hauben, and
Steven Swift. They also bolstered their rotation with University of Florida transfer
Justin Alintoff and UCF transfer
Jaylyn Whitehead. Sophomore
Kyle Kramer will serve as the team's closer out of the bullpen.
Â
Barry:
The Bucs were national title contenders in 2020, sitting at 17-4 when the season was called. The strength of their team comes on the mound where they posted an SSC best 2.34 ERA to go along with 171 strikeouts last year. Mike Reagan and Frank Gonzalez both placed in the Top 10 in the SSC in strikeouts and ERA. They have combined for eight innings of work in Barry's two games in 2021 thus far, allowing one earned run on six hits with eight punchouts. Three Bucs … Blake Brito, Richie Sobalvarro, and JC Garcia … each have four hits through two games.Â
