Tars Snake Bit to End Season

The Tars fell in their season finale, dropping their match against Florida Southern 25-16, 25-12, 25-23

LAKELAND, Fla. (November 20, 2021) – The Tars fell in their season finale, dropping their match against Florida Southern 25-16, 25-12, 25-23.  The Tars' campaign comes to an end with a record of 6-23, 2-17 in Sunshine State Conference action.  The Mocs conclude their 2021 at 15-12, 11-9 against SSC opposition.

Andie Baldridge and Riley Spurlin each registered five kills to pace the Rollins attack.  Rebecca Kuehn tallied 15 assists.  Alexis Yeager and Emma Begley each managed four blocks to lead the Rollins defensive effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
  • An Andy Baldridge kill got the Tars off on the right foot in the first set, but a pair of long scoring runs by the Mocs would put the set out of reach.  After Rollins evened the score at 3-3, Florida Southern tallied five consecutive points to take a commanding lead.  The Tars would pull back with in one, after a string of Moc errors, but Florida Southern again responded, taking six of the next seven points to regain control.  The two teams traded scored down the stretch, before the Mocs took the final three rallies to ice the set away.
  • Florida Southern took the first four points of the second set, before Rollins responded, using an Adriana Lopez ace and an Emma Begley kill to pull within one.  However, the Mocs had too much fire power in the second set, scoring five consecutive points on three occasions, as the Tars struggled to get the sideouts needed to make the set competitive.
  • Florida Southern jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the final set, as they looked to cruise to a victory.  However, the Tars showed fight in the final set, rallying off five straight points, including kills from Riley Spurlin and Alexis Yeager, and an ace from Lana Gerard, knotting the score at 12-12.  After the Mocs interrupted the streak, the Tars took four of the next five points to take a 16-14 lead on a Rebecca Kuehn kill.  Rollins would extend that lead all the way to five when an Emma Begley kill made the score 20-15.  However, the Tars could not hold off a furious Florida Southern rally as the Mocs won eight of the final nine points to end the contest.
This match ends the Tars 2021 campaign.
