Tars Bully Badgers for First Win of Season

Rollins defeated Spring Hill 62-42 on Saturday evening

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (November 13, 2021) - The Rollins Tars picked up their first win of the season with a big win over the Spring Hill Badgers, 62-42, at the Bahama House Classic in Daytona. The iwn moves Rollins to 1-1 on the year while the Badgers fall to 0-2.

How it happened:
  • The Tars were the first on the board with a jumper from Maria Atanassov-Toma giving them a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game. Rollins shot 7-16 (43.8%) from the floor in the first quarter, including a pair of threes from Yoke Tassent. They also secured 14 rebounds, blocked three shots, and stole the ball from the Badgers five times as they jumped out to a 20-11 lead.
  • Rollins won the second quarter as well, displaying the talented depth on their team. Six different players scored for the Tars in the second period. While their shooting percentage dipped to 31% in the quarter, they remained aggressive on the boards, collecting another 14 total. Defensively, the Tars ball pressure caused all sorts of problems for Spring Hill, who had the ball stolen three more times, and only managed eight points in the period.
  • Tassent continued her strong effort on both ends of the court as she notched four points, a block, two rebounds and two steals coming out after the halftime break. Spring Hill scored tweleve points in the third frame, but only shot 20% (3-15) from the field as Rollins forced the Badgers into tough shots. The Tars defense added another block and three more steals to their ledger in the third. The score after three was 45-31 in favor of Rollins
  • Atanassov-Toma and fellow freshman Isabela Prada each hit a two an a three early on in the fourth to keep the game out of reach. Asia Newsome and Lucy Leen also added buckets late to pad the box score before reaching the final score fo 62-42. The Tars once again shot well from the floor, going 7-11 in the period.
Tassent led Rollins with twelve points, and also added ten rebounds for her first career double-double. In addition, she also had an assist, two blocks, and four steals. Atanassov-Toma also hit the double-double marker with eleven points and ten boards. Asia Newsome also had ten to help the Tars offense. On defense, Rollins limited the Badgers to 22% shooting for the game and forced 17 turnovers.
